The relaxing link our professor had us listen to was my first. I did begin to feel the effects he mentioned. I really liked his analogy of the muscles and a sponge- it was very helpful. I did not like when he said to try and lift my hands up. It felt out of context. I did not want to reverse the process when he said to visualize the blood returning to my abdomen. A part of me was saying, "No, not yet!" I would also have liked time to send the blood to my feet.
His voice was soothingly soft. His repeating about the heartbeat and breathing was very helpful too. The slow rythm of the background music also helped me focus while he spoke. Overall, I enjoyed the exercise and am willing to do it again.
I was talking about this class with a patient and they told me about a site NIH (National Institute of Health) has called. 'relaxrelax' . It has audio and visual options to choose from. I have yet to check it out beyond the homepage, but it looks promising.
Here is the link:

If you do listen to something from it, please share what you thought.
Thanks!
Great information, thanks for sharing the link to the NIH website, can't wait to check that out because I personally enjoyed this exercise more than I thought I would - I will have to let you know what I think!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I was able to fully concentrate to the point of feeling the full effects of this imagery but I definitely felt the start of it with the heavy arms and hands, not to mention the relaxed state I didn't want to come out of. I will just have to keep practicing this I guess and maybe I will have extra practice from the NIH website now too.
Thanks,
Megan
I agree, the relaxation was nice and it would have been nice to have had a longer one, however, it was nice to escape for a few minutes wasn't it? I was happy to see that you posted a link to more audio relaxation exercises! I will go check those out!
ReplyDeleteI wondered, as the guide was having us re-direct our blood, if it was having any affect on our bodies, haha! I just had dinner, so having the blood leave my stomach and abdominal cavity didn't sound beneficial to me at the time, but I did it anyway, lol!
I must say whatever affects it had, the good definitely outweighed any possible negative (disruption).
